The River Falls Fire Department was established on November 20, 1984 after concerned citizens of the community requested a fire department. The idea was brought before the Greenville Planning Committee and approved.
With the help of the South Carolina Forestry Commission and many other people, a fire department was constructed across from the Gap Creek Baptist Church on Gap Creek Road and was later relocated on River Falls Road.
In 1999 one of our firefighters, Louis "Rawhide" Anderson, was killed in the line of duty on Highway 25. Rawhide was directing traffic when a semi truck struck him. River Falls Service 1 is named in memory of him.
